Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Two Class 9 girls jumped off a moving bus in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district after the driver, conductor, and two other passengers allegedly harassed them, made obscene remarks, and refused to stop the vehicle. The girls, who were on their way to Tori to appear for exams, sustained injuries and were admitted to the district hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bhawana Dangi stated that the accused, including the driver and conductor, made lewd comments and kept staring at the girls. “The girls got suspicious as the accused, besides staring at them, also shut the rear door of the vehicle. Fearing for their safety, they jumped out of the moving bus,” Dangi said.
The accused were identified as driver Mohammad Ashiq, conductor Banshilal, and two other passengers, Hukum Singh and Madhav Asati. They were arrested under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, according to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sandeep Mishra.
The bus was operating on the Adhrota-Tori route and had only six people on board at the time of the incident. Police officials confirmed that after jumping from the vehicle, the injured girls were assisted by locals and taken to the hospital. Their medical reports are awaited, and their condition is currently stable.
Authorities are investigating whether the accused have any prior records of similar offenses. The bus has been seized, and police are also examining its route history and security measures. Statements from the victims and other witnesses are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe.
